Finland has for a long time enjoyed Eurovision-themed shows by a talented singer and producer Thommy Fagerlund. Since 2008, he has worked for the cruise company Viking Line as a host and also produced his own shows – the very first Eurovision cruises ever. Now Thommy is back as a recording artist with a new pop song with schlager touch called “Vem är du, vem är jag?”.
Pop song about searching for one’s identity
The 4th December will see the release of Thommy’s new Swedish-language hit song “Vem är du, vem är jag?”. The song is written by Tony Haglund, known as a member of the Swedish band Friends, which represented Sweden in ESC in 2001. The song is produced by Sam Sonntag and released by Colla Records. “You can interpret the song in many different ways. It’s about finding your own identity, about life and relationships. When I first heard the song Tony had sent to me, I instantly felt it’s mine”, describes Thommy.
The music video is set in a beautiful mansion and a landscape in a sunny weather, presenting a couple with emotions and drama, and Thommy as a storyteller. The video has a manuscript and production by Simon Sid. When listening to the song, you can’t escape the feeling that it has a clear Melodifestivalen soundscape. There’s also a bit of melancholy, to combine the best of Finnish and Swedish music traditions. We could well name Thommy as Finland’s very own Magnus Carlsson!
Long career in music, dance and show life
In May 2020, Thommy released a Finnish-language, self-written song “Sut voimaksi sain” (“I got you to be my power”), but people kept asking him to sing in Swedish as well. He found Sam Sonntag as a producer, as Sam had been a DJ on the same Eurovision cruises. Thommy has plans to record more of his self-penned songs in Swedish. He feels he has found the right type of sound with Sam and hopefully they will be able to produce a full album in near future.
The last time Thommy recorded in Swedish was in 1995 with the band Daizy & Gänget. They had a hit song called “Se på mig” which enjoyed quite a lot of success in radio play. After that, Thommy has worked as a show artist abroad, in Mallorca and Rhodos, and participated in some Finnish music competitions.
Since 2011, Thommy has composed and produced a lot of music for the Finnish pop singer Anja Niskanen, and they have also performed together.

Thommy’s Eurovision favourites
When asked about Thommy’s thoughts abouts about the Eurovision Song Contest, he described it has always been part of his life: “I’ve followed the contest since I was little. One of my biggest favourites is Carola Häggqvist. There is a wide variety of music in the ESC nowadays and you can be yourself no matter the genre and style.”
Thommy’s favourite ESC songs are “J’aime la vie” by Sandra Kim, and Anna Eriksson‘s “Oot voimani mun” from Finnish preselections in 2000. Of the Danish entries, Thommy likes Lonnie Devantier‘s 1990 entry “Hallo hallo”.
New live shows in the years to come
Thommy has enjoyed being a producer, but recently he has felt the passion to be a performer as well again. He enjoys big shows and hopes it will be possible to create a new live show called “A girl to queen” with an personal and humorous theme. Let’s hope we will see that show in clubs soon!
Meanwhile, already next week, on the 9th of December Thommy will perform a Facebook live show on his artist page. The online show will be a great opportunity to hear Thommy’s sweet voice and his new song!
